123 HP Envy 7640 is a Versatile Printer that consummate fast and perfect Black and Color Print, Fax and Copy task. The InkJet requires a dye-based Tri-color and a pigment based Black InkJet Cartridge with high Yield. Your Copier can be loaded up to 125 sheets in the Input Tray and in return can hold 25 sheets in the Output Tray. Additionally, you get one more Tray for loaded up to 15 photo cards thus eliminating the need for switching papers. Moreover, get access to USB host and SD Card slot from the front of the Envy Copier for an easy walk-up Photo Print task. Your  Fax can store up to 100 faxes in memory and retrieve them at once.

 Description of HP Envy 7640 in Control Panel

  1. Wireless Light: indicates the printer wireless connection status. Some of the different type of status are
    • A Solid blue light shows the readiness of the Wireless connection
    • A Slow blinking light indicates a Wireless connection enabled, but unsynchronized on network. Ensure that your copier is within the wireless range
    • A Fast blinking light indicates an Auto Wireless Connection error
    • No Light indicates a wireless connection to be OFF
  2. ON button: Turn the Printer Power ON/OFF
  3. Back button: Return to the previous screen
  4. Help button: Opens Help Menu depending upon the current option selected
  5. Home button: Returns to the Home Screen path
  6. Control Panel Display: Swipe the tab in the Control Panel to Open Dashboard
  7. Near Field Communication button: Press NFC button on the control panel to display the NFC enabled mobile devices that are available. Touch the corresponding device to establish an local wireless printer setup

How To Setup HP Envy 7640 Printer

Unbox and Install HP Envy 7640 Printer:

  • To Setup your Printer initially, simply unpack your HP Printer from the Box
  • Cut open the tapes and remove packing present on your printer
  • Remove the stickers from the Printer Control Panel
  • Lift to open the Scanner lid and remove the tapes from it
  • Remove the tapes and internal packing from the cartridge access door
  • Remove the tapes from the Paper Tray and slide the pair of Paper Width guides towards the edge of the Tray
  • Load Paper Tray with HP A4 sheets
  • Accordingly adjust the Paper Width Guides to hold the Paper firmly
  • Power-Up your Printer and Computer
  • Now connect the USB cable to the 123.hp.com/setup 7640 and wait till the Operating System to Load
  • Now connect the other end of your USB cable to the Computer
  • Open the Cartridge Access Door and wait until the Carriage is idle and silent
  • Place your new Ink Cartridge within the cartridge tab and latch it
  • Load 123 HP setup 7640 Installation Disk on your CD Drive
  • Open the Auto Setup and follow the onscreen instructions to install  Software
  • Extend the Output Tray for your convenience
  • Print a Test Page to complete the Setup

Envy 7640 Wireless Setup and Install

Printer can be connected to a Network through Wireless/Wi-Fi Direct access. Your printer is reliable while establishing a Wireless Connection. You can connect your Copier on 4 different types of Wireless modes, especially Traditional Wireless Connection, Wi-Fi Direct, ePrint Setup and NFC Mode. Each one of the Wireless Connection has its own application for the End Users. A Traditional Wireless Connection is provided on a well secured Router based Network. While your Wi-Fi Direct, ePrint Service and NFC may not require a Router, but provides a reliable Local Wireless Network. In order to Setup your  Copier on a Wireless Network, ensure to configure your Wireless 802.11b/g/n Network using Wireless Router that is present with a Network Name and WEP Key. Check for the setup and working of Wireless Network.

Envy 7640 Traditional Wireless Connectivity

Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Envy Dashboard. Touch Wireless and tap Settings button. Touch Wireless Setup Wizard and tap Wireless Setup. Enter the wireless network name (SSID) and password over the Control Panel itself. Touch Ok button to complete the Printer Wireless Setup. Alternately, Click Start menu and Open the Control Panel/Utilities. Open the Network folder and Click Wireless Printer Setup. Follow the on screen instruction and when prompted for network connection select Wireless. Click Next and proceed with the instruction and enter your wireless network name (SSID) and password to complete the Network Authentication method. Click Yes and complete the  Wireless Setup. Once complete with wireless installation then check for the Wireless light that should be lit on Solid Blue color.

Note: If you have any security lapses then you may change the password from WEP Key to WPA passphrase.

Wi-Fi Direct Setup

Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Envy 7640 Dashboard. Touch Wi-Fi Direct and tap Settings button. Touch Wi-Fi Direct to turn it ON and then tap Back button to know on the Wi-Fi Direct details. Ensure you have the Wi-Fi Direct Name and Password. Using this Log In details you can configure up to 5 Mobiles over the Cloud Network. Alternately, Click Start menu and Open the Control Panel/Utilities. Open the Network folder and Click Wi-Fi Direct Setup. Follow the on screen instruction and when prompted for network authentication use your wireless network name (SSID) and password to complete the HP Envy 7640 Wi-Fi Direct Setup.

ePrint Setup

Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Dashboard. Touch ePrint button to turn ON the Cloud Network. Touch Web Services Settings and tap Display Email Address to know on the ePrint Mail Id. Install ePrint Apps that is available on Google Play store in your Mobile or Tablet. Open ePrint apps and Touch to select the type of file for email attachment, and then search using the ePrint Email Address for remote printer access. Select the  Printer and Touch Print to transmit the attachment for Printing. Alternately, Open the ePrint Email application from your Mobile or Tablet and in the Address field type in the ePrint Email Id and attach the desired document. Touch Send button to instantly Print it.

Envy 7640  Installation in Windows OS

 

Load the 123 hp Envy 7640 Software Disk onto the CD Drive of your Windows Computer. Double Click to open your CD Drive folder and run the Auto Setup. Follow the onscreen instructions and when prompted enter the desired Printer Name. Click Next and proceed with the instructions and complete the Software Installation. Select from the list of Windows Versions to run the HP Envy 7640 Software.

  • Windows 8.1: Click the down arrow in the Start Menu, to select the desired Printer
  • Windows 8: Click the Start Menu and Right Click on the empty space in Start Menu, Click All Apps and select the desired Printer Icon
  • Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP: Click the Start Menu and select All Programs Tab, Select the HP Tab and Click on the Printer Folder. Select and Open the desired Printer

Envy 7640  Installation in MAC OS

 

Load the compact disk on to the CD Drive of your Macintosh Computer. Open the CD Drive from the Disk drives access and run the 123.hp.com/setup 7640. Follow the onscreen instructions and when prompted for the printer name, type in HP Envy 7640 and Click Next. Proceed with the instructions to complete the  Software Installation. Open Software and Click File menu and Click Print. Click Use or Print Using and select Copier Name of your choice. Select the Properties/Options button to open the Print dialog box. According to your Macintosh OS select Print Properties:

  • For Apple OS X v10.6: To access the print options, Click the blue disclosure triangle available next to Printer selection
  • For Apple OS X Lion and Mountain Lion: To access the print options, Click show details button in your print dialog section
  • From Print options menu, select the Page Orientation, Size and Scaling Percentage etc., and then click Print

HP Envy 7640 Driver Installation

Printer offers innovative, web-enabled solutions that can easily access photos and documents over the Network. Ensure that your Copier is connected to a Network through Ethernet or Wireless. ePrint and AirPrint are Web Services that can print photos over a Wi-Fi Direct and thus enables the Cloud Print services. You may also establish a Cloud Network using Near Field Communication feature. HP Printables is a Pre-Formatted web content that can be accessed instantly for a Print task especially in the form of Tickets, Coupons and Photos etc., Using the print preview screen you can choose your Media type and the desired print quality effectively.

Install Web Services using Control Panel:

Touch or Swipe down the tab in the Control Panel to open the Envy 7640 Dashboard. Touch Setup and tap Web Services Setup. Touch Yes to confirm. Touch Accept to agree on the Terms of Use and Follow the onscreen instructions to enable Web Services. If Auto-Update screen appears Touch Yes button. When your  Copier establishes a connection to the Server then go ahead and print the information page that contains Printer Email address, Status of HP ePrint, Network and Printables.

Envy 7640 Driver Installation on a Windows OS

Click Start menu and Open the  software. Click Print, Scan & Fax and under the Print Section select the option Connect Printer to the Web. Follow the onscreen instruction and when prompted for Network connection select Wireless. Click Yes to confirm and continue with the instructions to complete the Driver Installation. Alternately, Click Start menu and Open the Control Panel. Open the Printer folder and Click New Printer Setup. Follow the on screen instruction and when prompted for network connection select either Ethernet or Wireless. Click Yes and then Select 123.hp.com/setup 7640 Printer from the Installer to complete the Driver Installation.

Install Web Services using Envy 7640 EWS

Open the EWS homepage on your Web Browser. Click the Web Services tab and select the Web Services settings. Click ePrint Setup and follow the on screen instruction and Click Yes to accept the terms of use. Click Yes if prompted for software update otherwise restart your Printer. After establishing the Copier and Web Server connection you will be prompted to print the Information Page.

Envy 7640 Driver Installation on a Macintosh OS

Load the HP Utilities disk on your CD Drive and open the HP Easy Start Setup. Click Connect Printer to the Wireless. Follow the onscreen instructions and select Wireless when prompted for Network connection. Click Yes to confirm. Click Next to continue with the instructions and complete the Driver Installation. Open File menu and Click Print and select either Use or Print Using and select a Copier Name of your choice. Click Apply button to create a default print settings. Alternately, Click System Preferences and double-click Printer and Devices. Select Printer section and Click Add Printer to create a print queue on the Mac OS menu. Follow the onscreen instruction and select Printer. Click Next to continue with the instructions and when prompted for Network Connection select Ethernet or Wireless. Click Next and proceed to complete the Driver Installation.

HP Envy 7640 Ink Cartridge Installation

Copier requires a dye-based Tri-color and a pigment based Black Ink Cartridge for Instant Ink Ready Printing. Your Copier Ink Cartridges are long lasting and affordable. Ink from the Ink Cartridge are drawn out through evaporative and residual process and thus results in keeping the print nozzles clear and the ink flow smooth. Always make sure that you turn off the Copier while not in use to reduce the ink waste and to avoid ink coagulation. Ensure to keep your Ink Cartridges protected in the original sealed packages and kept at room temperature.

Replace HP Envy 7640 Ink Cartridges

Switch Off the Printer power and wait until the print carriage is idle and silent. Push upward to open the Cartridge Access door and wait until the print head is moved to the center. Unlatch the Cartridge tab and Press down to remove your Ink Cartridge. Remove the packing and plastic taps present in the Ink Cartridge. Slide the Ink Cartridge within the cartridge tab and latch the tab. Remember to install the Ink Cartridges according to color coded letters. Repeat the process to completely install all the Ink Cartridges. Push Downward to close the Cartridge Access Door. Power up your Printer.

Use  in Single Cartridge Mode

You can operate the  Copier on a Single Cartridge Mode with the help of instruction from your Computer. Whenever an ink Cartridge is removed or depleted then your Copier goes into Single Cartridge Mode. In order to come out of this mode replace all Ink Cartridges in your  Printer.

HP Envy 7640 Printer Troubleshooting

To clear paper jamming issue

Press the Power button to turn the Printer OFF. Open the Cartridge access door upward and remove the Paper path cover. Clear away Paper Jams and other torn pieces of paper from rollers and wheels. Replace the Paper path cover to avoid foreign debris get into the paper path. Next, find the print carriage and move print head to the far right and check for paper jam to remove it. Also, move print head to the far left to clear paper jam. Close the Cartridge access door downward.

Troubleshooting Cloud Network

Enable Wi-Fi Direct from the control panel for your  Printer. Enable Wi-Fi ON in your Computer or Mobile devices. Always use either a password or Wi-Fi Pin to establish a Wi-Fi Direct connection. You can also relocate Copier closer towards the Cloud Network for better connectivity. Furthermore, you may also try installing the correct version of HP AiO Mobile Apps in your Mobile or Tablet and re-establish the Cloud connection.

Traditional Wireless connection Troubleshooting

Open the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility to diagnose and automatically fix wireless connection issues. Ensure that you have enabled the Wireless feature in your  Printer. Check for the Wireless light is lit on Solid Blue color in the Control Panel. Use your Wireless Router to check for the HP Envy 7640 Printer configuration. If you have security lapses then you can change the password from WEP Key to WPA passphrase.

Unexpectedly Printer shuts down

Check for the incoming Power and the Power ON button. If problem persist, then Disconnect the Power cord and wait for 15 seconds and Re-connect it to the wall outlet. Ensure that there is no damage to the Power cord and is firmly fixed to the Printer. Remember to create an interrupt on your Printer to come out from Sleep Mode.
